Words 4 Mayhem is a strategy game that follows a group of animated worms on an adventure through time. When the game launches, you watch an animated clip, which you unfortunately cannot skip, that sets up the story of the game. In the tutorials, you learn how to customize your worm avatar with new clothing and accessories, but you also learn how to perform different actions in the game. Once the game begin, your teacher sends you and your group back in time to take care of enemies before they attack.

The game features five different levels that offer different games and settings. You start out in the Jurassic world before heading to the Camelot world and later the Arabian and Construction worlds. The game also sends you into the Wild West, where you battle against cowboys and try to ruin their ability to attack you in the future before escaping. Throughout the 25 missions that you play, you get the chance to uncover new weapons and learn new skills that will assist you as the missions become harder. Each of those missions requires that you find and obtain certain items and destroy certain buildings before you can move on. While the first few levels are fun, constantly performing the same tasks later becomes repetitive.

If you add a second player to your game, you unlock 20 additional stunning levels. Those levels give you new tasks to perform and expand the original world of the game. You can even go back into some of the worlds you explored before with your partner to find additional items and do further damage to your enemies.

When you unlock a new mission and venture into a new world, the game gives you a compass on the side of the screen that shows your current location and the location of your task. While this compass should make the game easier, many players find that it doesn't work as well as they might like. If you move too far in one direction, the compass can spin in several circles before finally showing you where you are on the map. It can also prevent you from seeing items directly in front of you.

Worms 4 Mayhem serves as a good sequel to the original game. That game made you play a specific character and did not let you customize your character. With this new game, you can customize every feature and facet of your character. With its fun story and interesting backgrounds, Worms 4 Mayhem is a game that you will love playing on your own, with your kids or even with your spouse.
